this may actually go on for days but today it is a start. In the corner of my room I have had a box. For years the box has sat there untouched, noticed, but the contents unknown. Being it is that everything I own is in one room, I have learned to 'make do and do without.' A lot of people by my age have houses full of junk, so i dont feel guilty only dealing with one room. A lot of things have come and gone out of my bedroom. The box in the corner, has stayed too long at the party. I am ashamed to say the contents of the box were old. Way old. Like a ticket stub from a movie from 2005....a movie I don't even remember seeing. Weird. There was my notebook from classes in Hawaii SEVEN years ago...a candle that is 'all i got from so & so's wedding." The list goes on, but I will spare you of the details. After the box was emptied, it was refilled 1/2 way to be thrown out/shredded. wow.
I moved on to the nightstand that has not been opened since 1997....well not really, but I found a letter from then in that drawer. Time to pack it up & dump it out. I kept Joseph Beecroft's journal, but cleared out the drawer after that. Next drawer. I still don't have the heart to throw out the cassette tapes of Brian Adams, EFY, Little Mermaid, Depeche Mode & NKOTB.... that's New Kids On The Block for you youngins out there. So if there are any takers out there, let me know. Maybe I'll donate them to the Smithsonian someday. :}
I found some great letters of encouragement, mementos of vacations of the past, and trinkets that seem to have aged less gracefully than I originally imagined. If I de-junk myself, than I have more room to grow, expand, and acknowledge new space for great ideas. I have to to get rid of the junk to let in anew. De Junk today....next stop the closet. Scary.....very scary......
"Junk is something you throw away three weeks before you need it."
"Only in America do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage."
